We often hear that “Jesus saves, but what does that really mean? “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17)
Friends without doubt, this is one of the most beloved and often cited passage from Sacred Scripture. Yet, what is the “Promise” God appears to offer in this passage from the Gospel of John? Why is it that as people of faith “WE” have come to believe and to profess that the promise and Word of God is true? Do you feel we believe because the words from John lead us in the direction of “HOPE”; hope that our world can be saved? And if so, what does this mean for you and/or for me, our families and our friends?
My friends as you reflect on the questions cited above…dig a little deeper into yourself and then ask that nagging voice in the back of your mind the following questions; “How does Jesus bring peace, harmony, and justice to the world today? Why does our wholeness as an individual depend on Jesus? How does that process work? How does Jesus transform us into the people that God created us to be?” In other words, how does Jesus save us, do you have an answer?
As we continue on our path through “life” we most definitely will encounter individuals seeking to provide shortcuts to salvation; shortcuts where prayer, tithes, charitable works or even church fellowship are sold as being keys to heaven. Yet those people who seek to gain personal advantage on the pathway to eternity clearly fail to grasp that salvation is the perfect gift of unmerited love from our living and loving God!
Let Us Pray: “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2 (NIV)
